Asian Connexion

The awesome cross-cultural category! In this category, no one knows who their partner will be until the day itself. In true Lucky Dip style, they may be a complete stranger, they may not! All we do know is that ONE dancer from Ceroc Asia will be dancing with ONE dancer from the rest of the world. It’s a chance to get to know each other. Dancing Silver pass dancers get to dip their foot in the competition waters with this category included in the pass.

Level: OPEN

  • Participants in this category are judged as a couple
  • A couple will be comprised of one leader and one follower
  • ONE of the couple must reside in Asia, ONE of the couple must reside outside Asia
  • Baby Aerials permitted, no Aerials permitted
  • Leans, Dips & Drops permitted


Dance with a Stranger (DWAS)

In this section nobody knows who their partner will be and partners are changed during the heat! With this category we aim to discover the best overall individual dancers in each level. You are judged individually here so push your boundaries and excel, dancing with some of the best partners you will ever encounter. This is a true test of your skills as a dancer.

Levels: (1) BEGINNERS - (2) INTERMEDIATE - (3) OPEN - (4) BY INVITATION

  • Participants in this category are judged individually.
  • Dancers will be paired up with a partner the start of the category and partners will be changed during the competition.
  • Traditional gender allocation applies in this category. Specifically, males are leaders and females are followers.
  • Baby Aerials permitted, but not Aerials.
  • Leans, Dips & Drops are permitted.
  • Dancing out of time with the music will not invoke penalty, as it is unclear which member of the partnership is at fault.


Freestyle

Ceroc Champs spirit at its finest. Whether you have been dancing a few months or a few years, join this category with your fixed partner to compete, gain experience and possibly even win! Be prepared to wow the judges and the audience with breath-taking moves, effortless style and expert timing.

Levels: (1) BEGINNERS - (2) INTERMEDIATE - (3) OPEN - (4) BY INVITATION

  • Leaders and followers may be of the same gender. Unlike BOTS this is for regular “serious” partners to compete at their appropriate level.
  • Baby Aerials permitted for all levels, but Aerials permitted only for the Open and By Invitation categories.
  • Leans, Dips & Drops are permitted.


Battle of the Sexes (BOTS)

Bring the sexy on! Couples must comprise of two men or two ladies. This playful category is limited only by your imagination. The emphasis is about enjoying yourselves and entertaining the crowd.

  •  Aerials permitted.


Team Performance

A true test of the CPAC competition flair - can you and your team members impress the judges and the crowd with your choreography, musicality, precision, presentation and fun factor?

Level: OPEN

  • Each Team will dance a self-choreographed performance to their own choice of music for a minimum of 2 minutes 30 seconds and a maximum of 4 minutes.
  • Each team must comprise between 6 and 30 dancers.
  • Team couples may be of the same gender.
  • Routines should largely consist of identifiable Ceroc moves. Non-contact dancing is allowed, as long as the non-contact dance does not take up more than half the choreography.
  • The names of all team members and the final name of the Team must be submitted to the Ceroc Asia organisers at least 3 weeks prior to the event.
  • Music must be provided in MP3 format to the Ceroc Asia organisers at least 3 weeks prior to the event.
  • Routines will be judged for their 'entertainment' value. This takes consideration of, but not limited to:

 - Musical Interpretation
 - Choreography
 - Quality of Dancing
 - Synchronicity
 - Dress
 - Performance: engagement with audience and one another and use of expression
 - Imagination: Innovation of theme and content
 - Use of Space: Formation, shape and placement
 - Complexity: Challenge of choreography

Music Mash Up

This heat tests you and your fixed partner’s skills to adapt to whatever our Champs DJ throws at you. With 4 x 30 seconds of contrasting songs for you and your partner’s dancing delight, you will be challenged! From slow to fast, quirky to silky, outrageous to in-the-box, can you change the flavour and style of your dance interpretation on the go?

  • Participants in this category are judged as a couple.
  • Leans, Dips, Drops and Aerials are permitted.


Tag

New for 2019! This year, Tag is our threesome event! In this category, one follower dances with two leaders, but only one at a time and leaders are switched multiple times throughout the song.

Level: OPEN

  • Participants in this category are judged as a trio.
  • Each trio must consist of three people in any combination of male/female dancers.
  • Each trio must comprise of TWO leaders and ONE follower. The follower must remain the follower throughout the competition.
  • While changing leads, the dancing must remain continuous and the changes must be smooth and clean.
  • Leaders may move around their partners, dance on their own or be static when not dancing with the follower.
  • Leans, Dips, Drops and Aerials are permitted.


RocVets

New for 2019! In this new category, age and experience do matter, as we celebrate the veterans who are still Ceroc-ing!

Level: OPEN

  • Participants in this category are judged as a couple.
  • At least one dancer must be aged 40 years old or above.
  • Leaders and followers may be of the same gender.
  • Baby Aerials permitted, but not Aerials.
  • Leans, Dips & Drops are permitted.
